Level 2 Dog Obedience — What to Expect
Prerequisites Dogs should already know sit, stay, down, come, and loose-leash walking from a Level 1 class.
Skills Typically Taught
- Extended stays — sit/down-stay with duration, distance, and distraction added
- Off-leash reliability — practicing commands without the leash in a controlled environment
- Heel — formal heel position at your side, including turns and pace changes
- Leave it / drop it — reliable impulse control around food, toys, and other dogs
- Place/go to mat — sending the dog to a designated spot and holding it
- Recall with distractions — coming when called even when something interesting is nearby
- Greeting manners — sitting calmly for greetings instead of jumping
- Basic tricks — sometimes introduced to build focus and engagement (spin, bow, etc.)
